serial experiments blender episode 2: the lighthouse

The mission was to create a simple low-poly lighthouse as a means to learn about using edit mode, sculpting, applying multiple shaders, and lighting. I got a little distracted and decided to try and remake the titular lighthouse from Robert Eggar's 2016 masterpiece (and only the 4th major motion picture to say mermaid-fucking is totally cool) The Ligthouse.

First draft and final product first because I'll be coming back to this page to fill in the full process later.

the reference

a promotional image for the lighthouse. the image is greyscaled with bright white highlights and heavy dark blacks showing a lighthouse sitting atop a small rock island. its light beams bright light sending out a lense flare. in the foreground the ocean roils and a mermaid's tale breaches the water.

the first draft

a simple blender render using blank white objects shows a stereotypical lighthouse shape behind a small rock wall on a flat plane

last thing third

a blender render with heavy noise and bold black and greys showing a lighthouse looming over a small rock island with a simple lens flare shooting out. Water roils around the island, reflecting back the lighthouse.
